broken followers jtd but belt tensionors wp etc fine !!!!
I am a little confused,
75MPH cruising down M1, enging cuts out no drama not a single abnormal noise just total loss of power, clutch in engine has stopped. ???
pull off a slip road check engine bay for any obvious trauma and nothing. so i go to start it and for the first turn sounds normal followed by a faster intermittent pulsing starter sound, i can only describe its speeding up on part of the cycle due to loss of compression on a cylinder or two hence speeding up interminably while turning over.
So get it to a garage, and the report back is this broken followers 8 of them !!! cam belt all pulleys water pump tensioners all as they should be no wear no damge, not a thing wrong.
Now i expect damage of the kind if if belt snaps etc or maybe one follower braking due to fatigue (105k miles) but 8 ?
So to fix it, (Luckily it was due belts this summer) it needs belt/pump etc wise and a new set of followers. My concern is with no apparent reason for the failure could it happen again or is there another issue lurking somewhere...........
i dont mind when things go wrong but i feel much better when i can see why, I.e if the belt had snapped or water pump failed etc it all makes sense.
But as i said im a bit uneasy on this one..... Any explanations, ideas or examples of something similar would be gratefully received.
