Hohum!! there can actually be two reasons for this behaviour (assuming the starter motor doesnt crank the engine at all that is);
1. Bendix drive on startermotor seizes once in a while, a removal of the starter and cleaning the Bendix drive inside will sort you out.
2. Your flywheel is missing some teeth. Not good. This means a new flywheel, clutch and of course removal/refitting of the gearbox...
