Needing a new wheel hub and bad Indie experience.
Well, got to the bottom of the handling problems.
Went to another garage to replace the rear passenger stub axle as play there (the indie should have picked up on this).
I got an alarming phone call.
The Indie replaced the stub axle on the drivers side, and he advised me that the bush and collar were separated.
Garage with the car just now have told me that the hub itself is damaged, it is warped and there is a lot of play with the new stub axle only fitted last week.
Now, it is hard to get to the indie as not open Saturday and no courtesy car.
Quoted £90 for new hub and 2 hours labour at £35 per hour plus VAT.
What should I do? I don’t want to take legal proceedings against my Indie if I don’t need to – should I just write a letter with the receipt for the work and the new hub cost?
I also have access to a used hub, but am thinking best to get the new one as only £90.
I feel that he should have detected that the hub was knackered before completing the job, both on counts of cost, and safety. That car literally could have killed me, it handles really badly on corners. I did not take the car to him for a specific job, I said, this car is handling badly, please deal. I feel he has failed me. Probably no comeback on the hub as it may have already been knackered, although I accept that replacing the bush may have caused the damage. My main beef is that he did not pick it up.
Onions about how to proceed are welcome before I call him and lose my rag…….
