Cry Like A Baby motor control system failure

Hi all pelase help !!
I recently changed from my 156 2.5 v6 veloce (loved that car) on monday and bought an alfa 3.2 GT 07 plate 80k full history from a semi afla dealer and i love it, the cam belt job done back in November (full kit) with very few miles covered since the change and all other servicing requirements have been completed in full.
However last night i popped out in it and the engine management light came on stating "motor control system failure" while breaking from about at about 60 mph so pulled over about 1/2 mile down road
i couldnt hear any nasty noises at all however the engine Fan was permantly on even with the engine off and didnt stop until i turned the key to totally off! i did try this a couple of time but the fan just kept coming on when pre-ignition on and the tempreature gauge was reading "0" and didnt get above that all the way home,

Obviously ive not had a chance to take to a garage as yet to put on a reader but does anyone have an starter points for me as there arnt any specialist garages local to me but after reading on here am i right in saying that it could be the impeller on the water pump (i dont know if a metal one was put in on the cambelt change probally not) if it is i dont really want to travel to far to get it looked at
please help as my heart has sunk with dissapointment im gutted

Is it hesitant to rev?

I had the same thing on my 156 TS. First thing I though was that I'd knackered the engine.

Turns out all that needed replacing was the MAF. 70 and ten minutes fitting all was good again.
