Gt 3.2 won't go again!!!!!!!

Hi
On the last few weeks my GT 3.2 decided to have starter motor problems. The result was I have had a new battery and (ouch!!!!) new starter motor. I had it fitted by an alfa service centre I have used for 10 years and trust. They have me a starter motor at cost and said it must have been bad luck . I have only driven it home(15 miles) and drove it today for the first time in about 12 days. Drove it 2 miles and mcsf warning came up. Then low battery voltage
( this happened the first time) . Got home and parked on drive and as before car will now not start!!!!! If something has caused the starter motor to go again -and I have been told these very rarely go- how do I fare with the garage if they missed something causing the first one to go ? It was 600 last time and they said just very bad luck the starter motor had gone, but here we are again and apart from their test drive it's only done around. 18 miles since picking it back up the first time . I am gutted to tell you the truth-so any views appreciated

Cheers

After the engine is running, the mcsf light should not be involved, nor should the battery lose charge.

It's more a symptom of alternator failure.

The first thing I done was call the garage. They said get it down to them, which if it's like the last time. It will start in the bump. However while the work last time is guaranteed for two years ( done two weeks ago!!!) if something else caused the first one to go ( starter motor) and possibly this one is the guarantee still valid. I mean that was nearly 600 and I do not want to pay that again plus whatever caused it. I assuming it's gone again as the symptoms are identical. The car will not crank, so turn the key and just 'click' and that's it . The last time it was diagnosed as starter motor gone and I had initially replaced the battery . This getting way beyond a joke !!!
It's not as if had a hard life it's done a pampered 28,000 miles and it's an 07 plate 3.2 one of the last sold in the UK . If it keeps on like this it will be parting company with me I am that fed up !!!!

Sorry Dave
I don't know . I also don't know if the second one has gone but the symptoms are identical , so I am making an assumption. Tomorrow I should get it back to them. We will see from that what's up ??

Hi Dave
This has all happened in three weeks . Do the one that went , was three weeks ago and that was the factory fitted one . The new one had been on two weeks and it's genuine alfa part. But if it had gone what the f is going on I wonder ??

Garage
Was the battery symbol coming up on the computer when this started happening? Did it come up when the car was running?

Any ABS VDC errors?

Sounds like an alternator issue to be though, but surely they checked this and measured the readings off it?

Sounds to me, and you've not been very clear about the symptoms, like there may be a loose wire connection between the alternator and the starter motor. Not that suprising given they are a bar steward to change. The not starting and mcsf lights are probably as a consequence of low battery voltage.

right so 3 weeks ago original one failed so they fitted a new genuine one 3 weeks ago and then this has happened ? correct or the new one failed and they fitted another (no cost to you) and then you have this NEW problem ?
