147 MOT nightmare
Morning All, had a bit of a nightmare with the my 2001 147 1.6. Took it for it's MOT, hour later got the call from the garage stating it needed some welding, 2 new tyres, and a new brake light. £420...fine, told him to go ahead and get the work done. After completing the welding and fitting the 2 new tyres he moved on to the brake light...turns out the issue isn't with the bulb, the main body computer has gone!! He said he couldn't believe it but he's got two electricians to view it and both gave the same diagnosis. I have had lots of light warning messages and occasional flashing dashboard so I do believe him.
Looking online, it seems that a new one is £600 inc fitting. I would never have given him the go-ahead on the other £400 worth of work had i known about the body computer. I was simply looking at getting it through it's MOT then trading her in in the next few months (the garage were aware of this). Had i known the bill would be £1000 i'd have scrapped her before any work was done.
So, I'm facing a £420 bill to cover work already done, the garage are out of pocket because he can't charge me for the 2 electrician appointments, and now I need a scrapyard to tow it away...any advice? I'm annoyed with him but i don't think I can do anything about it. Does he have to stick to original quote of £420 to get it through it's MOT? If not, i guess i'll just ask him to remove the 2 tyres to reduce the £420 bill as much as possible but that's about it.
