Belt besides the engine?

Hi all,
Sorry this sounds like a dumb question, but whats the big belt next to the engine in a 156 2.0 twinspark?
Is that the cambelt? or is it something else like auxilery?
Just its sqeeling and whining like mad!

Depends what your looking at, if it's got teeth it's the cambelt, if it's got 4/5 grooves running along the inside of the belt it's the AUX belt.

Cambelt is mostly hidden so most likely is the AUX you're looking at, and the idlers/pulleys/tensioner do squeal when they're on their way out.

Good luck

Most likely auxiliary belt or pulleys - mostly the pulleys. The belt drives the power steering pump and alternator, and also the aircon compressor - so noise may get worse when any of these are put under load.....

Relatively easy job to change, best to do belt and tensioners.....
