Selespeed problem 156 sportwagon
When in traffic (engine on 90 degrees) the selespeed dashboard indicator starts to flash and the actuator puts the car into nuetral and thats it no go.
You can reset it (turn off ignition, lock-unlock car) and whilst still hot the problem remains, left long enough it allows you to go again.
I've tested the battery and there are no problems with the charge or charge rate, disconnected the battery for the alloted time to reset the factory defaults on the selespeed ECU, selespeed oil is just under the maximum and there is no visible sign of leaks around the actuator.
I got AA relayed home when I had the incident but have used the car a couple of times locally since then, it briefly stuck in second but was OK (could be unrelated) and again used it and had the dashboard selespeed light flash once after it had gone out but it went off immediately and the car drove fine.
The two times it gave me any indication it was going to start being unhappy were both damp/wet days, so that could be the cause. From some other threads I've read it could be selespeed oil pressure and maybe some internal seals are on their last legs?
I'm looking for an alfa specialist near me, I don't mind paying ***** to do it but the garages are a bit hit and miss working with selespeeds, plus they dont all have the right calibration equipment to bring the actuator back up after doing work. I'm in uxbridge in north west london so someone nearer me would be good, but I will travel for my Alfa.
I've got an 02 156 Selespeed Sportwagon with 51k on the clock, pretty mint, full alfa service history.
