147 1.6TS Motor Control System Failure
I got a harassed call from my wife this morning. It would appear she's joined the club [as it were] and the car's developed a MCSF.
She was driving to work, the orange MCSF light came on and the engine cut out and won't restart. That's when she phoned me. While i was asking her to describe all the symptoms, she turns the key and it fires up. That's about 1 minute after it's cut out, so no time for the engine to cool significantly. She then dirves off and get's to work - 4 miles away - without any further problem. The warning light is still showing though...
Also there is a 'code' error showing. Any ideas?
Now i've searched the forum for some history and the only other example i could find of the engine cutting was a result of a snapped cam belt. Obviously since che managed to drive 4 miles, it's highly unlikely the timing belt has stripped a tooth, though i suppose it could have slipped...
The car has done about 68K miles with the cambelt last changed at 60K. I'm not entirely sure the garage did a proper jobb as the variator sounds like it's starting to die which is telling me they didn't change that when the belt was done. I'm worried now that the tensioner wasn't changed either!!
Fortunately the car's under a very comprehensive warranty so this shouldn't cost me anything other than some inconvenience.
Also, i've been having trouble recently with the fob. Seems to be a loose connection as sometimes you have to give it a shake before the LED lights and the locks open / close. That's making me wonder if the key is 'talking' to the immobiliser when in the ignition, or if the codes have gotten out of sequence.
Also, any garages to recommend in the Maidenhead area?
