Re: Someone stop me.....
back to the main point for a sec......
......nothing wrong with taking a safer bet if the budget, family requirements, previous experience etc, guide you in that direction.
my experience with Fords has been that in many cases they are built down to a price, though recently they seem better. Also, they have electrics and that goes wrong in a Ford just as it does in an Alfa - I haven't seen Ford beating Toyota and winning any reliability awards.
Maybe the question is, if practicality and reliability are paramount, why aren't you considering an Avensis? Once you start trading off reliability for looks, style etc....you might as well go the full hog and go Alfa.
One final point....the kids play "Alfa" in the car........shouting out when they see one, first one to five wins, then start again. It keeps the journey going - and there are just the right number of cars to do it with (and the odd older model to throw people). Every now and then they're so screamingingly competative that they turn heads. Ever played "Ford" or "Vauxhall"?
