[QUOTE=simons]I normally see about 300-350 miles from my 2.0 again mixed driving and although rarely over enthusiastic that is when these cars drive best so not driven like a grandad either!! I would have hoped to have seen 500 from a JTD (£55 tank) based on book figures and about £4 a gallon!
Cost of car well its complex I need to sell mine clear some bills and will be left with about £1500 to buy a car or for deposit the particular JTD i have seen is 2 years newer than mine with 45K less miles. At a extra cost of £1700, So ?I was considering putting the deposit down financing the balance over 3 years with repayments about £80-£100 a month which I was hoping to save on fuel (and small saving on both tax & insurance), hence spending the same each month but at the end of 3 years having more equity, does any of that make sense and is 500 miles a tank with mixed driving possible from the 2.4JTD.
Right then, I drive a 10v 2.4jtd that has been Re-mapped, has a CDA air intake and an uprated boost controller, running at approx 190bhp, and drive it like it should be driven, and see around 450/460 miles to a tank, i suppose if i drove it like a pussy, i would see nearer 500 to a tank, but i would rather walk than adopt that type of driving style!!.
My reasons for buying my Alfa were along the same lines as yours, I had a 325i bmw and was spending a good £50/week on petrol, so had to lower my fuel bill, hence the need for a Diesel, I must admit i dont do moon miles per week (maybe 200) and now fill up every 2 weeks as opposed to every week in my BM.
Sound wise, there is the obvious diesel clatter at tick over, but once on the move, the 5 pot sounds like an old audi quattro, lovely strong growl, you will love it!! I do
My friend has a `04 2 litre jts, and driven back to back, we both agreed that due to the increased weight of the Diesel lump, my car handled much better, with much more surefooted turn in and v.tight follow through, round-abouts are awesome, one near me is a near 70mph exit with only a little drift!
I cant big-up the diesel enough, i have had mine 2 and half years now and love it, selling soon though, but to get the utterly awsome 2.4 20 valve, that can push 230bhp with a bit of trickery, cant wait!!
GET THE DIESEL, YOU WONT REGRET IT!!
