Help Alfa Specialists in Central Scotland

Hi all

I'm looking to get my cambelt and variator replaced soon and i am looking for a good local indie in the central belt area of Scotland. The only two I have found via a web search is Shawlands in Glasgow and McLennans in Edinburgh.

I was wondering if anyone has had any contact with either of these garages and if the are any good, or if anyone can reccommend any other garages in the area.

I've had nothing but good service from McLennans for both my RZ and the GTV. The only problem is that they get busy so things sometimes take a wee while to get done, but in my experience they do a good job and don't charge the earth. I'd recommend them.

Shawlands Motor Company
McLennans Edinburgh
Edward Labinjoh Edinburgh
CP Garage Services Dundee

and mixed reviews:

Continental Garage Gourock

Plus there is a guy just posted about an Alfa Technician doing 'homers' in Glasgow at low rates.

I've used C P Garage services, Dundee Tel 01382 731479. They are Fiat /Alfa specialists and keenly priced.

I can add my support for McLennans in Edinburgh. Not impressed by Shawlands I'm afraid.

McLennan's do a superb job and would highly recommend them. A father/son outfit and I think Stuart McLennan was an Alfa Mechanic for many years before he branched out as an independant.

His premesis aren't exactly swanky or large, but he's very good and did a camelt, tensioner and variator change on mine last year (around about £400 including parts and labour IIRC).

I got my cambelt + tensioners done in Cumbernauld for £280 (mines the 2.0 so has 2 belts) Can't recommend the guys at Castlecary Motor Company highly enough. Have all the diagnostics stuff too so bang up to date. Kinda busy so have to book in advance. I was recommended them by Giuliano McCulloch (silver GTV Spinder G1ULS if you ever spot it around) Speak to either Jim or Hugh there.

Surprised no-ones pointed you here: (Alfa Service in Scotland)

Someone expresses disappointment about mclennans and a new service has opened in EK.

Not impressed by Shawlands

I got my front suspension done by Shawlands less than a year ago, I had to pop into another Garage recently to get somethng else checked and they pointed out my front suspension wasn't right, need to take it back to them to fix. I'll let you know how I get on, if they're helplful and fix the issue.
