Alfa 156 alternator problem

I have a 2002 alfa romeo 2.4 JTD sports wagon and my fanbelt snapped recently,I tried to put a new one on my self but found it falling off as soon as i start the car. I found that the tensioner pulley was seized so I am going to get one tomorrow morning however someone looked at it and told me my alternator was was also seized. However now when i look at it, the alternator pulley turns anti clock wise (opposite way to the crank) but not clockwise. does this mean i need a new alternator? because i dont want to buy one and find i dont need it. Thank you all for reading

The alternator pulley has a freewheel in it so it will turn one way if the alternator itself is seized. Mine turns easily in both directions so it sounds like yours is seized.
If you're replacing the sprung tensioner, don't forget to grease its pivot bearings so the new one lasts a bit longer.

Be careful the top end of my alternator seized a couple of weeks ago then it sheared off completely and the belt dragged it through the tensioner and other pulleys, made a right mess and a big bill!!!!!!
