147 JTD intermittant loss of low end power
Joys of a his and hers alfa household: sort one issue out with one car, then the other car is jealous and begs for attention.
Now the mrs' 147 JTD has an intermittant problem with losing power in low revs.
She first had a scare coasting onto a roundabout and then halfway round putting her foot down to accelerate away on the opposite end and nothing happening.
I then drove it for my work commute and on the way in I didn't notice too much, but on the way back there was an instance where I just could't get the car to pick up, even after downshifting. After a few seconds it did pick up again.
Anyway, reading on here I came to suspect either a leak in the turbo hoses, leak in vacuum hose to turbo or maf sensor failing.
I checked the turbo hoses and they seem fine, so decided to unplug the maf and do a test drive.
Things seemed better during the test drive, pick up from around 2,000 rpm seems improved with the thing unplugged and a 50 km test drive did not trigger an occurence of power drastically dropping away.
1) does the above support my tentative diagnosis of duff maf sensor? How to confirm?
2) is it indeed a bad idea to drive too much with the maf unplugged (permanent MCSF warning? It did pop up when I started it a second time...)
3) any tips on sourcing the sensor 'sans' housing? I assume it has a serial number or so if I take the sensor out? Get the motor factor guy on the phone with his Bosch contact and bob's your uncle?
Thanks in advance, chaps.
