Maybe I'll buy a GT

Hi Alfisti

I apologise if I'm asking questions that have been answered previously. I've previously owned an Alfa 164 and a 166 (facelift model), both Twin Spark models.

I've caught the bug again and can't decide between getting a 3.2 GT or another 166. I'm not too concerned about any extra practicality a saloon may have. I want a stylish car that's good to drive.

Is it correct that the V6 in the GT is the Busso engine and not the GM derived V6?

Are there any issues regarding the GT that a refugee from the 166 section should be made aware of?

Thank you in advance

3.2 is the busso

the GT is properly a better drive than a 166, more evolving and more fun, but 166 really are epic cars

the GT suffers from suspension wear but other than that its just the same general maintenance that needs doing

You may want to look at the cost of VED for particular years. Pre April 2005 iirc is quite a bit cheaper.

3.2 GT certainly more plentiful than 3.2 166. And yes, certainly the Busso.

I have a 3.2 GT and have a hankering for the 166 version. For a small car the GT is very practical with the fold down back. Goes like the clappers. The only challenging issue specific with the GT is that the windows are possessed by evil spirits. Apart from that, it is all 156/147.

Thank you for the above advice.

I've noticed that 3.2 GTs are much more plentiful and because of that more reasonably priced (in general) than 3.2 166s.

Thanks for the very good point regarding VED as well.
