Re: a poser

Hi 1000 miles per litre is what Alfa say you,ve got a problem how many mile,s has engine done? could be valve gear/stemseals or piston,s are you sure there is no smoke, carry out simple test fill engine to max when cold then do 500 miles and recheck after a short stop on level ground this should give you a better consuption of oil figure? Just seems an awfull lot of oil used for no sign,s of where it,s going!!!!

Re: a poser

When my engine was rebuilt after the cambelt/big-end caper, I had the pistons rings replaced as they had some very tiny cracks and one bore had a very fine scratch which was polished out (glaze-busted).

Before this I had the normal Alfa oil consumption of "where's it all gone?" and showed no signs of burning, no leaks, etc.

Now she hardly uses a drop. So my money would be on the piston rings.

Re: a poser

like gazza, following a complete rebuild my consumption hs dropped to almost zero! so much better than having to fill the thing up every weekend!
