Clutch change 147 JTD..unable to remove gearbox from engine!!
Having bought myself a very nice 147 JTD to act as a daily car (while GTV is to be kept as a weekend project) , I am now in the middle of clutch change process. Just to mention I `ve been doing spannering on my own for almost 15 years, but this problem I encountered for the first time. I am doing it on my driveway as I did 3 clutch (Punto mk2, Alfa 145 boxer, Lancia Y) jobs before this way and have not had any difficulties. However, this time is different. I have supported the engine using hydraulic jack and block of wood for weight distribution, Car is on axle stands at the moment. Gearbox mounts are off and gearbox is supported from above using 500 kg ratchet strap. Clutch slave cylinder removed. All bolts between gearbox and engine removed. Starter motor removed. Left side (as you sit in the car, driver`s side for us here) driveshaft removed completely. Other one left in place as I (maybe wrongly) expected it would come off (slide out ) easily. The problem : Although I am unable to see any obvious reason, gearbox is still acting as it is one peace with the engine!! I mean SOLID !! Despite all rocking/wiggling back and forth, up and down, it did not make even a few mm gap between!! please shed some light on this matter if you can, it is raining at the moment and I can post pictures if necessary as soon as the weather clears little bit.
