GTV TS for 156 v6 Thoughts??

Hi All,

When I bought my GTV it was a toss-up between the car I bought, and a 156 2.0JTS. I have been browsing car ads (silly me) and have spotted what looks to be a great deal on a PH1 156 V6. What's people views on the relative merits of the two cars? I know in many respects they are not comparable and both have their strong points (looks of GTV vs Engine of 156 etc).

I don't use cars for commuting and can go a week or more without touching. I don't have kids and so almost all practical/economical considerations are out the window. Here is my list of good/bad points for the two cars I can think of. Any advice that will help me settle this would be much appreciated...

GTV Good

Looks amazing
Special ("wow" factor - especially normally non-car interested girls)
Cosmetically good both inside and out
Nice silver PH2 Interior with Tan leather
Better wheels
Known quantity (Spent £600 sorting issues)
More economical
Below Average Miles

History only to 2008 (though all old MOTs and bills for recent work)
No cambelt history (apparently done with 2011 engine rebuild - traders word)
Pull to the left a little (even after sorting tracking)
Front Speaker Wiring (distorts speakers - 2 different speaker types tried)
Bad driving position for long journies
Bad visability
Partner struggles driving (wide, parking, visability)
More expensive TAX (Post-2001)

156 Good

Cam Belt
Full Service History
1 Year MOT
Mechanically good
Cosmetically very good
Cheaper Tax
Easier for Partner to Drive
1 Previous owner
Below Average Miles

156 Bad

Not as special as GTV (no "wow" factor)
Good but not great looking
Older than GTV
P1 Interior (sea of grey and less quality feel than GTV)
Unknown quantity

If you don't drive the car regularly - forget about MPG.

The GTV is a to drive - even the 2.0 is good enough. But the GTV is to park.
Well you have been living with it - so you'd know better - the 156 is a much "easier" drive - still engaged, sporty and all that, just more comfortable

The V6 sound is intoxicating - go 156. If the question was V6 GTV vs V6 156 - I'd go GTV...

From the wording you use I think you like the bling factor... then GTV.

I have a sporty setup 156 V6 SW and drove a sporty setup GTV V6 for a while - for me I want practicality. My 156 SW is everything the GTV is in handling, speed and sound, and I love the car. But if I did not want the practicality side - I would go with that GTV

I owned a 156 V6 for 10 years and test drove a GTV 3.0 V6. My feeling at the time was that the 156 had a much more modern feel to it. The GTV reminded me more of the 146 that I also test drove. So overall I preferred the 156 V6 to the GTV V6. (The 156 V6 is probably the best car I have ever owned - the fact I kept it for 10 years says everything).

Having said that - the 156 V6 is getting on in age, so I'm not sure it's a good swap now. If you have a GTV that you have spent good money on and it's in good condition, you might be better off keeping it. If you fancy owning a slightly more mental Alfa, maybe consider a GT 3.2 V6? You can get one quite a bit newer than a 156
V6 and they have a more sports car style drive (closer to the GTV).
