You've got a short somewhere I'd say. It is probably seeing two buttons being pressed together when in the off position.

My 156 is a 05 plate, I hope this means it has the wiring look for the CC controls. Anyone tried to retrofit in 156 2.4 20v?
Certainly have and it works great. Hills just don't exist anymore

Tested it again last night, and again on the way to work this morning.

The resume is now working perfectly but it is still doing the other, solution = don't turn it off and all will be fine, it's an Alfa

I inadvertently purchased a stalk for a 147, which is now surplus to requirements.
£20, if anyone wants it. :mygrin1:

Cry Like A Baby Connector problem

Hy guys! Sorry about my english. My problem is with spare connector/white plastic socket. The last owner cut these connector, and leave the wire free. How should to connect wire's car from ECU to stalk or what does means( + - 12v turn on/off res) each color? The wire it is:
White/Blue
Blue/White
Yellow/Green
Grey/Red
Brown
Thanks a lot!
Ps The car it is Alfa 147 1.6 88kW from 2001.

Red+Grey=Acceleration+
Black_white=Deceleration-
Green+Yellow=ON/OFF
Blue+White=12V
White+blue=RESUME

Great guides on here.

What's the going rate for a 156 stalk and cowling roughly?

I'll have to ring around some breakers this week, unless someone on here has 1 for sale

When you do this mod is it fully functional as in when you switch on the Cruise Control does it illuminate an icon in the instrument cluster?

I've just flashed a very bright light into my instrument cluster to see if there's the correct Cruise Control icon in there. There isn't. Without taking off the steering cowl, does that mean my 147 probably hasn't got the socket to fit the C/C stalk? In my Mrs Astra when you use C/C a white icon lights up and as soon as you hit the brake/clutch it goes off, is it the same in the 147 that has it fitted as standard?

On a 156 as long as the CC is switched on at the stalk the light is on, regardless of whether it's holding a speed. Guess the 147 is the same?

Cruise control is there as part of the wiring harness on all facelift 156s. The stalk gives the control functions. When you plug in the stalk, the cruise functions operate as if it was a factory fit option.

The cost varies hugely depending on where you get it.

A normal breaker will charge about £20-£30 for the parts, a specialist Alfa breaker who knows what they are used for May charge £50+.

I'd say, email some of the myriad sellers on EBay who are breaking late 156s and ask.

I was after a late model dash top info enter panel. Alfa specialist breakers wanted £60-£100+VAT.

A regular breaker charged £18 delivered.

Ordered a 147 stalk from ebay for £25 delivered which arrived on Tuesday. Fitted it to my 54 plated 156 Tuesday PM following the wiring guide linked to on Pistonheads earlier in this thread. Didn't want to work, but having just realised there's a printing error in my owners handbook which seems to suggest the fuse for the cc and reversing lights (also not working despte me fixing the loom in the boot) also protects other circuits that still worked, I've changed the fuse and now have working cc and reversing lights. Just need to modify the lower cowl to allow the stalk to come through neatly. Thanks to everyone who's posted good info on this thread.

Ordered stalk, steering cowl and two screws off eBay, £30 the lot delivered, arrived today, installed in twenty minutes, tested on Parkway, works a treat, what a cheap and simple upgrade!

Here's a 147 one http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ALFA-ROMEO...item338b577c47 £24 delivered, or there's a 156 on here http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Alfa-Romeo...item35d17315e4 including cowl for £95 delivered. Te 156 one will be easiest and look factory, but the 147 one will work if you play with the wiring, but you'll need to modify your cowl as it exits in a different place to the 156.

Hi guys, i am sure you're bored of silly questions about the cruise control, i have a facelifted 156 (2004) 1.6 ts
This has the white connector and iam looking at one on ebay for £90 incl the cowling, i got a little confused between non face lift models and 147 conversions.
Do i need anything else to make this work for my model (brake or clutch switches?), is it as simple as plug and play?

Really appreciative for any help.
Thanks in advance guys

Certainly is just plug and play. You need to remove the steering wheel in order to fit the stalk though. Don't forget to disconnect the battery

Remove the steering wheel? I just turned it so the spokes were out of the way and fitted the stalk in minutes.

Fitted my 156 one today. Complaints/help

The screw isn't long enough to secure the unit. Anyone got what mm it is?

It works great on mine, but I would say its hard to judge the speed. What does the button do on the end? I thought it just re-engaged the last speed?
