However, I am also playing with the idea of going for the 2.0 selespeed. I have read numeruous threads on this forum about the experiences with the selespeed. And now I am a little bit "afraid" of buying the selespeed.
Maybe someone can list down some advantages and disadvantages relating to selespeed for me? I think this would help me very much.
I don't have a selespeed on my 147 and I don't want it.
The reason is that I tried the gearbox on my Dad's 2004 156 SW and I did not see the point:
I did not enhance the driving comfort and I had the feeling that the gear change was quite slow.
In addition beware the reliabilty: my dad seems to be the average victim of the selespeed doom (According to his Alfa dealer) because the car had to return for some elctronic failures linked to that gearbox.
Thanksfully, the car was just still under Warranty (2 years in France).
All in all, I personally don't think the flappy gearbox is the invention of the Century...
...Once I agree with Jeremy Clarkson (Top Gear) !!
Despite I don't have the opportunity to drive the same exotic sportscar than Mr. Jeremy, I had several opportunities to test the Audi system (on Audi A3 2.0 TDI) and it was unbelievely disgusting: The car had undoubtly torque but, again, it was deeply let down by the unbelievable Gear change time...
...Or maybe my brain is too quick
Anyway there is complete opposite point of view on the subject (Hence the selespeed option is still an option on current Alfa), so my final advice would be:
Try it to make your final own mind.
All the best,
