hmmm angel chip tuned diesel GT with increased boost is faster than standard Brera... suprised? no. fair comparison? no.
chipped brera with the far superior (if you like caravan towing cars) 2.4 diesel engine? hmmmm
your mate was boed by a 2.2 petrol brera? Im not suprised! imagine how bored he would have been in a 2.0 petrol GT!
I dont want people to get the wrong idea about what I think of the GT. I obviously will never understand diesels....... but apart from that I think its a fantastic looking car, and I nearly bought a 3.2 but opted for the much rawer feeling, faster 147 GTA instead as in all honesty the GT image is a bit grey haired grey suit for my likeing. String back driving gloves and shoping for a cardigan in M&S. The old guy in the showroom likes to take the GT home, the 147 is a bit frenetic for his pacemaker...
Yes, the brera has 'challenging' styling, and it would be almost impossible for M&S man to be seen dead in one (he would break his back getting infor a start and theres no room in the back for golf clubs or weekend luggage...) thats one good reason to opt for the brera IMO.
The fact that any and all sensible motoring journalists alos rate the brera as a better drive (which I agree after a test drive in the-slightly souless but gutsy feeling-3.2 V6 recently) than the GT speaks volumes. Ie driven both and the ride and handling of the brera make the gt (and my 147) feel very 'old'.
As an example, when the GT came out it didnt get a mention on top gear, the brera however creates a stir and even a small feature.
The GT is too last generation, its a coupe 147, a last use up of stuff sitting in the parts bin and the fact that the large majority are dull as ditch water diesels doesnt exactly help its sporting pretentions or old man image.
I dare you to count the number of GT's you see on the road with their badges taken off - a sure sign of a guy that thinks he is in a sports car when the reality is he is driving an exeutively styled diesel mundano.
Harsh? maybe, but drive the 2 back to back (standard) and the brera comes out firmly on top.
Buying one now is suicide... its like walking into a football shop and asking for last seasons away kit.
All IMHO opinion of course....
