Help DIY ECU Remap

After seeing various ecu flashers on ebay for less than the cost of getting the ecu remapped by a tuning specialist just wondering if anyone has done a DIY ECU remap and how successful it was?
I know that Autodeltas remap is a one-size-fits all so don't really see why it should be any better than the remap discs you can buy.
Is the pro's hardware that much different that it warrants nearly 300 for a 5 minute job ?
Apologies if i'm wrong and there's a lot more to it (i see Angel Tuning is a personalised remap which takes much more than 5 mins so can understand where the money goes with them)

Re: DIY ECU Remap

unless you know exactly what your doing dont try it yourself! its very easy to kill the ECU and if you dont have agood understanding you may never recover it! the alfa ECU is protected by a hard wire link that prevents writing to it as to prevent people doing damage, but it can be easily removed.

the flashers on ebay are all very well if your 100% confident they will work, and you have the correct maps to flash your car, ie, a specificly tweaked version of the exact ECU your runnning, thats where the big names make there money, they can ensure the perfect map is used for your car, which they will have programmed themself, and can guarantee it against failure. for a few hundred quid its worth putting your car in to a big name for them to do it, they will do a good job, and guarantee it!

Re: DIY ECU Remap

Thanks Marko for the quick reply - i just found it strange that it was one thing that no-one seems to do themselves on their cars.
I shall be investing with a tuning pro as i think i'd shoot myself if i killed the car !
