Looking at a 2.0 JTS GT

Hoping to buy a new car soon to replace my now dead 166 . Have been considering a 2004 2.0 JTS GT ,have seen one for 3500 with 67000 on the clock and being sold by an Alfa specialist .

My questions are really ,at that age would that count as an early JTS and with it the early teething troubles and also is that price about right for that model ,it's not leather.

That seems ok hoping that the specialist has done the belts and wishbones etc, which would make it better value IMO.
I've found checking the oil weekly vital on this engine. I use Mobil 1 10/60 fully synthetic at the rate of about 500ml per 1000 miles. Dependent on right footitis.
Keep your eye on Gumtree etc as some well looked after ones turn up there.
All the best with your search and remember there is a North and South GT meet this summer.

The 'early JTS' bit normally applies to the 156. They were modified in April 2003 (ECU, cams, maybe a few other bits I think). Therefore I don't know whether the unmodified engines ever made it into a GT. It's possible.

With the VIN, you could find out when exactly yours was built, and what factory modifications it had.

It didn't solve all the JTS' problems by any means, but they're not as bad as some make out.

I'm just selling my GT JTS after 8 years of ownership - unfortunately I'm not doing the miles to justify it anymore. It was a really hard decision, because I have loved every minute of owning it and it still gives me a smile when I turn the key in the morning, but circumstances change I guess

Anyway, regarding the 2.0 JTS engine, mine's a 2005 model and it's been a pleasure since day one. Although in the 8 years there's been general wear and tear on the car that needs addressing, the engine itself has been fine. You obviously need to keep an eye on the oil - it doesn't drink it, but needs topping up regularly. And I got mine regularly serviced, which I think is also important.

3,500 seems a bit high for a 2004 model, but it is low mileage and if it's in good condition with a full service history probably ok. Just beware that it'll be due for a cambelt change in the next 5k or so. Speak to Autolusso at Houghton Regis about that though, I got a great deal recently when I had mine done.

Anyway, I'd say go for it - I'm sure you won't regret it
