Presumably it gauges the amount of boost pressure a turbo is producing and feeding it back to the ecu - then combining it with other data from the engine sensors it sets how much the turbo should be giving considering all circumstances....mailnly so as not to blow the engine....just a guess

My car has something called a pierburg valve which is similar, allows a standard 0.7bar and 1.1 on full throttle, but only if the other sensors are giving the correct readings

Could be many things, but I'd expect as Alfajack says its a sensor to feed boost pressure into the ECU for some management reason, I suspect something to do with managing emissions. I would have thought that the turbopack has a wastegate, so I'd be surprised if its used to actually manage boost levels.
