If it's smokin a lot, it supports my theory about a cracked cylinder head, and oil penetrating into the combustion chamber. Also, if the oil escapes before reaching the tappets, it will explain the ticking noise, not to mention the strange noise an engine running on three cylinders cause because of a fouled spark plug (or two) would accomplish.
