i used to spray my motorcycles when i was a lad and have loads of experience sanding and filling dents due to my riding technique but have stayed clear of any repairs in the many years since.
however after seeing the quality of a so called reputable spray shop's insurance repair on my (spit) laguna this spring, i decided to have a go at simple scratch removal on the laguna's bonnet by using t cut and then going finer and the results were amazing. just took ages by hand. got an orbital sander somewhere but couldnt be bothered to go buy all the pads etc.
anyway i want to have a go at repairing some severe chips on the bonnet of my red alfa 147 16v mjet turismo
paint is rosso alfa 130b/b and i entered it into this site here
and now want to know what are my next steps
(apart from ringing a chip removal specialist.)
has anyone any experience in diy chips repair?
someone has had a go on our car and the results are rubbish. just blobs of like nail varnish with no signs of rubbing down before or cutting in after etc.
is my car laquered or to use the modern expression clear coated?
if so where am i best to buy paint and clear coat bearing in mind the quantities i will be playing with?
btw i thinking of buying a proper buffer as i now have two cars with swirls as a legacy of the sponge/carwash brigade
