Car not going well

A colleague also has a 147.

He has told me he is having problems starting it sometimes, and will dip and ‘just not go well’, but does not sound rough.

To me, this sounds like cambelt trouble. Before panicking the guy, is there anything else it is likely to be?

Re: Car not going well

Sounds like an air intake or flow problem, is his MAF OK? Does it stall?

Re: Car not going well

I'd say Maf or temp sender problem, The starting prob I think tends to be MAF related. Unplug it and see if the car starts better. Used to have to do this on some of the 16v 155's when they'd been sitting in the sun. The air temps used to confuse the MAF and muck the fueling up.

Re: Car not going well

If in doubt blame the MAF. It's German made so it makes us all feel better about buying Italian cars that have an image of poor reliability compared to their German counterparts.

Plus the MAFs are usually the problem
