Power Steering Fluid - Where to put it?
Real stupid newbie question I know.
I brought my '98 Alfa 156 for a NCT/MOT test
a few months back, at this time the PAS was getting heavy
at low speeds, and non existant when parked,
though when I got the revs up it seemed to come back.
It failed on tyre thread dept on a rear wheel (no mention of PAS),
I got a new set of tyres, and rebooked the test a week later.
Yeah you guessed it, failed on the PAS.
My insurance it due for renewal soon, but it won't
be renewed without a valid NCT/MOT cert.
I have had nothing but bad experences with Alfa dealers.
At this stage I rather pay a local mechanic than my local dealer.
I've been told its the steering rack.
I've been told its the steering pump.
Browsing the forums, it looks like I could have/should have,
checked and topped up, if not replaced the PAS fluid.
So back to the question, where is this located in the engine?
And what fluid would you recomend (something generic I can
get from halfords).
Also I have been quoted 625 euro for parts & labour for
a new pump. So you can see why I want to give the fluid
a bash first.
I paid 2995 euro for the car just over
a year ago, so far I have repalced the battery, starting motor,
tyres and had it sitting in the driveway for a week after
hitting the fuel pump button under the passanger seat
