Alfa JTD inhaled swirl flap advice
I am looking for a bit of guidance with a problem I have with my Alfa GT JTD 07 86K. A few weeks back the engine was a bit hesitant missing and suddenly started knocking loudly at the top end. I got the car towed home and upon removal of the intake manifold I can see that 2 off the metal swirl flaps are missing. (I was expecting 1 to be missing not 2??)
Anyway, I see a few options for me but due to my limited experience I do not know which would be the best way to proceed.
1) Rebuild the engine in place (if possible?) currently struggling getting the head off as it will not pass the fuel pump casing. Need another dry day to have a look at removing the casing
2) remove the engine and rebuild (can the engine be removed through the bonnet or is it sub frame off and drop the engine?)
3) buy a second hand engine and replace (second hand engines look to be around £850 and with a new timing belt and parts we could say £1000, is this likely to be cheaper than rebuilding my current engine)
4) Any recommend Alfa Romeo garages in Aberdeen?
I appreciate any advice that can be given. just looking to weigh up my options before I proceed.
