Crazed Brrrrrrrr its warm

This is yet another odd one. Several times this and last summer I have been distracted by a loud bong and insistant message on trip computer to beware of ice on road. How silly of me to be dressed in shorts and tee shirt in the middle of summer with a temperature of minus 8 - minus 14 . My local garage have hard wired the external temperature sensor on mirror pod but it still occaisionaly happens.(last time was when raining)
Any one had this strange problem, it is not a major prob just puzzling.

Re: Brrrrrrrr its warm

If it's been raining, the effect of evapourating water and air movement can cause excessive cooling effect - try licking the back of your hand and blowing on it. The same principle as fridges etc. May not be a problem - just physics!

Re: Brrrrrrrr its warm

Based on experience

You have a short across the wires in your external temperature sensor in the passengers wing mirror (the little nipple that sticks down from the botom of the mirror housing). Had this with the GTA - it thought it was -40 one hot 25degree day... there was standing water inside the mirror housing and it had shorted out the conenction.

If you dry it off and re-mask the wire all will be fine.

If I remember rightly you can by moving the mirror to point up as far as it will go (using the controls) and unclipping the housing - look at it from below use a cloth covered screwdriver. you can pull the wire and sesnor out from below the mirror....

Re: Brrrrrrrr its warm

Thanks for that, I will investigate further. Garage had looked at fault and re-wired twice but sometimes it is worth trying to fix it yourself.
