Time for a new gearbox

Well I've been putting it off long enough, but my gearbox in my 1.6 147 seems to be on it's last legs. I've been battling with a very stiff linkage and now it's becoming hard to even get the gears!

I'm not an expert, so kinda just ruled it to getting a new gearbox (which isn't too expensive 2nd hand.) If you can suggest what else it might be, that would be great!

But if it is the gearbox, is it possible to install a 6sp manual to a 2000 147 lusso 1.6 T-Spark (120HP)? It it worth it?

More likely to be the linkage than the box itself from what you say. Check all this first.

Seems your answer is in your question and that your linkage mechanism is at fault.
I bought a v6 that wouldnt select gears, it was a fifty pence peice of plastic causing the problem. You need to disassemble the linkage mechanism ( its near the battery on the bell housing of the gearbox). Remove the cables unbolt it, slide out the nylon bush. Replace it or copperslip it up assemble and you should have what will feel like a new gearbox!

Im saying all this from doing it on a v6 156 years ago so if ive missed bits / or got bits wrong please correct me!

Have a look here, good write up on changing the top hat bushes http://www.alfaowner.com/Forum/alfa-...ml#post4565652.
Bushes themselves are about seven quid from AutoLusso.
