Even If you want to lower the car for looks only, I would recommend you to buy springs with dampers as well. I am driving my car lowered 35mm with H&R springs and original dampers. I think the ride is much better on good roads and worse on bumpy roads full of holes. Especially if you have or consider getting big 17" or 18" wheels, I think you need dampers as well, as the original are not able to control such heavy wheels.
My opinion is, that if you drive mostly on good surface roads, you will be happy with springs only and you can decide to get dampers later. If roads in your neighborhood ale not perfect, consider buying spring/damper set.
