156 JTD Wheel bearing advice...

Wheres the best place to source a front wheel bearing for a 2000 156 JTD – mine is making a throbbing noise whilst turning and braking and am sure it needs replacing. Have tried a few places and theyre abouy £70 with vat and postage – does this sound about right ?

Also, how difficult a job is it to replace – any specialist tools required or is it as simple as wheel off, brakes off and replace ?

Without checking, the price seems about right, although I dare say someone will come along and find one 50p cheaper on the internet somewhere.

If you are doing the whole bearing then its pressed into the hub so you will need at least a 3 ton press. I suppose you could take the hub off and take it to a garage to do the pressing but how much this saves you against a guaranteed job if they do all of the work is a personal choice for you. Depends how broke or flush you feel

having firstly replaced all my brake pads because of a noise that
sounded like a loud humming, then replaced the disc and pads because the noise was still there.
I am wondering if it could be the wheel bearings? cannot recall to
much noise when turning but it still makes a noise when using the brakes at fast but legal speed.
If it was a bearing wouldn't the mot test pick it up?
as the car passed the mot, and the garage thought it was worn discs?

If its droning and needs doing get it done asap as I left mine for too long and the bugger siezed on me on the M55....took out the ABS sensor too due to the heat. I had Ferdi do mine as they can be a bugger to do!
