My 10v was mapped when it was brand new, 0 miles on the clock.
It now has 184k on the clock - never needed a driveshaft or turbo in its whole life! But it had a clutch at around 80K, clutch & DMF at 129k, and another clutch at around 180k.
It made 200bhp at 169k, also fitted not long before that rolling road session was a front mount intercooler, throttlebody delete, BMC CDA, EGR valve blanked, decat pipe and Wizard exhaust. The original remapping done in 2003 wasn't changed to account for the hardware upgrades as I didn't think it really needed it. Power was always smooth and it was really good on fuel too, I can't remember ever getting less than 40mpg average on a full tank and it often did over 50mpg.
As to whether you should remap it - if you can afford the consequences of failure then why not. It probably won't cause your turbo to fail but I guess there is always the possibility that it might.
