Re: JTD 2.4 tappets
Nope, never even seen the raw end of a hinjector, Spose a wire brush no good???
No, but if one has gone noisy I somehow doubt that dirt is the problem. Does it ever make itself apparent when warm? I mean could it be making a noise when the throttle is open a bit? If it's an injector and it's audible on cold start, it would be delivering a bit more juice than when warm, so the same conditions might cause it with a bit of throttle.
I'm not very familiar with electronic diesel injectors, but they don't just open and close at appropriate points in the cycle, they control the flow of juice during the burn. For instance they often have a 'pilot' phase before opening up to deliver the bulk of the fuel. This is to do with pollution and refinement. With the fuel delivered at what, 150bar (2250psi) this all demands quite a lot of force and power. Not surprising you can hear something! Lift the top cover and when it's running use a bit of small-bore rubber tube to see if you can pinpoint the source. Alternatively grandad's trick of putting the sharp end of his screwdriver on the suspect part and pressing his ear to the fat end is very effective - if a bit LOUD.
(His other trick of stopping engines using fingers to earth the plugs gave infinitely more amusement though.)
Doesn't say that in the manual
