What's up with my cigarette lighter socket?

I was using my Pure Highway (a DAB radio) in my 147 for the first time yesterday. The power plug kept on falling out of the cigarette lighter socket. It was like it wasn't deep enough or too wide.

Is this a known problem? Is the socket damaged! It looks OK.

Yeah, I've got an 12v air compressor that is a very poor fit, no way it would stay there if the car was moving.

OTOH, before I hard wired a lead for my mobile phone, I had one that fitted the cigarette socket like a glove, rock solid it was.

Good luck

If you look inside the socket, you should see down towards the bottom, two lugs (one on each side)
Using a small plastic blade, you can bend these lugs in towards the centre ever so slightly, which will make it a little tighter.

Just one word or warning though. Make sure the blade is plastic, if you do this with a metal blade you may inadvertently touch the positive and cause a short.
