Love my little 2004 147 JTDm - best and until now the most reliable little car I've owned. Has 140k on the clock, and just had it serviced last month costing a cool £1000 for 4 x all season tires, synth oil, new aux belt, all new pads, two new discs, tracking etc. Clutch and EGR replaced at 80k.
New starter in it last week after it gave up the ghost.
Yesterday the timing belt went on it. Totally gutted...
Been advised it's going to be anything from £1000 to £1500 for it to be stripped, looked at and repaired by my local garage (that I trust - used them for years).
Question is what to do... if I hadn't just spent all that money on the service I'd probably just write it off and get a new car. Thing is that I'm now going to be £1000 down straight away if I get rid, but on the other hand if I spent £1000+ on getting it fixed then what's the odds on the gearbox or clutch going on it soon too?!
Anyone else been in my shoes? When to call it quits?
After sympathy and people more knowledgeable than me to give their opinion!! Really unsure what to do...
(And if I do get rid then what to replace it with... credit history isn't great and this time of year I'm broke so in a real muddle!)
Thanks - Steve
