156 engine worry
Okay -- I have a 1.8 156, 2001 model, with 105k miles on the clock.
At beginning of November, while my other half and I took my daughter out for a birthday meal, the engine started to knock. Not loud, but enough to draw concern so I topped it up with oil, which seemed to help.
Nevertheless, since then I've had to put a litre of oil in every two weeks or so. Yesterday, again, the oil top-up light came on so I put around 3 litres in to keep the engine topped up.
(Just like to explain my OH is a wheelchair user and our daughter is 11 years of age)
To cut a long story short: This morning (Sunday) fired the engine up and there was plumes of blue smoke. Can anyone tell me whether I've just over filled the engine or has the oil rings mashed up? I appreciate no-one can tell for definite with either emptying the sump or a strip down.
Given I am a carer my budget is limited, and would like some pointers.
Thank you, PP
(BTW, the engine doesn't seem to be knocking for some reason)
