147 1.6 - clutch/gearbox problem

Hi All,

Posting this on behalf of my dad who owns a 147 (1.6 petrol). He went to drive it earlier today, put it into reverse and it made a crunching sound. When he took it out of gear, the gear stick went all loose as did the clutch. Can't put it in gear now and clutch totally gone.

Any ideas what the problem is.

Many Thanks

Gearstick could be the plastic block at the base of the lever. It splits and the lever will not move the rods. But it won't affect clutch ... but then even if it worked you can't select a gear.

I had the same problem with my 1.6. Bled the clutch and it worked for a few days and then the clutch pedal would go down to the floor with no resistance. Re bled the clutch and it would work again for a shorter period. Eventually it gave up completely. I would add that there was no loss of fluid from the clutch / brake reservoir and no signs of a leak from under the gearbox.
Turns out it was the slave cylinder that had gone faulty. In the 1.6 they are the concentric types fitted integral to the gearbox bell housing. So if this is the problem its a gearbox off and a new cylinder and clutch.
I have now covered 3000 miles since replacement and no further problems - unfortunately it cost 500 to fix at a garage.
