The replacement odometer should have less km/miles on it then your car had when you install. The bodycomputer also keeps track of the miles driven, and you can only increase the number of miles given in your (new) odometer, to prevent fraud.
Number of miles in bodycomputer will be transfered to the odometer, obviously this will not work if your "new" odometer already has more miles registered as your bodycomputer.
Also it seems there are 2 versions of the counters. Old ones have a VDO code ending in 001 or 002. These cannot be adjusted via OBD. All later counters are ok.
