Re: GT steering knocking sound
A rythmic knocking sound, not too dramatic, with a lot of lock on is something I've had in two cars - once it was a CV joint failing after the gaitor had split and let all the lube out, once in a 156 it was a front wheel bearing failing.
If it's a bearing then a new one is needed, but if a CV gaitor has split and you catch it early enough then a new gaitor and some lube will often sort the problem before the CV joint itself fails. The gaitor, made of rubber, shouldn't fail in a young car though, how old is it? At the first sign of CV gaitor wear on my cars I change them both - better than the alternative. Of course, the CV joint may have just failed, lube or no lube!
Re: Newbury, it wasn't the VF car-park, was it? If I'm ever visiting there I see plenty of nice cars, Alfas included!
