Alfa 147 TS Timing belt failure
Hello there, my first post is not a good one! Altho I'm guessing most will only post when they have a problem! Well I have a big one!
I bought an Alfa 147 T. Spark Lusso just over a year ago. I did quite a bit of research (some of it on this forum) and asked my mechanic etc good and bad points. I drove the car and liked it so decided to go for it. I was told the cam belt can be a weak point so I checked that this had been done recently since I didn't want to fork out in the first year (loan payments etc!) The cam belt was replaced at 60K and it's now on 86K (I've done about 8K since I bought it)
Well... The other day I was on my way to work and the engine cut out with 'motor control failure message' (Scary never happened to me before, but I managed to pull to the side of the road safely) After 2 1/2 hrs getting cold in the car the AA towed me back to my garage (I was 18 miles outta town!)
Basically, as suspected the damage is severe and the garage has quoted over 1K for repairs, which is not really guna happen this close to xmas!
I just want some advice really since I thought the timing belt would be alright and the car has performed superbly over the past year (I was starting to think Alfa's reputation was unwarranted, now I'm not so sure!)
Does anyone think I could pursue with the garage that fitted the last cam belt (where it currently is) the issue that it failed about 10K before the recommended replacement interval?
Failing that I think I'll be scrapping and going back to Peugeot! :-(
