Alfa 147 2.0 T Spark ECU Problem
New to posting on forum but have been reading for a while.
I have a faulty ECU (the one under dash board that links to fuse box) on my 11 year old Alfa 147. Costs about £470 + VAT plus fitting for new one from main dealer!! so would rather avoid having to spend that much but having trouble clarifying alternatives options.
Is there a way to fit just a second hand ECU with identical part number (Magneti Marelli 46558753) and get it reprogrammed to the car? Main dealers say 'no' because the unit is 'linked' to the chassis number and therefore have to order brand new unit from Alfa and then have main dealer fit and 'programme' it. I'm sceptical as this just seems like a license to print money for them so not sure they'd be straight about cheaper options!
Or, can I try and source an alternative 'new' unit (maybe not a Mag Mar part) that can be reprogrammed?
I know you can buy a second hand complete ecu, locks, etc 'kit', but the time/skills needed to fit these make that high risk as I'm not a mechanic and wouldn't be able to fix any problems should they arise.
Can anybody recommend somebody that can help work out the best way forward as the car is great and only has 30K miles on clock so don't want to give up on it?
