So the new rear shocks are on, and its all cured. The rear end is much firmer now, very hard to push down much at all unlike before, much firmer suspension, the knock/chirp has gone, and the ride is...newer, firm but more fluid less choppy on very bumpy roads, and far less roll in corners, a total improvement.
The side that was knocking was so bad the shock piston had no compression resistance at all, it just slid in and does not pop up under the shocks pressure
. The other side was fine, not as firm as the Monroe replacements which are better, but normal for 156 (so its for sale if anyone needs just one shock - see parts for sale)
I got Monroe Reflex struts, and they were 147£ for the pair delivered, a deal a seller on ebay got me with Larkspeed as he did not do the sports suspension version. and they are top notch! seem to be more suitable damping level than OEM ones.
Fitted myself (the strut to hub bolts were a MARE to get out, had to take everything off so I could smack them out with a club hammer as seized in, and then fitted new bolts cos that damaged them).
Hold the rear end slide....don't run wide!
