147 Climate display / glow plug error after new battery

I had been having trouble with my battery for a month so as I persevered with it after Halfords told me it was fine. After jump starting my 2004 1.9Jtd for a few weeks the battery finally gave up and needed replacing. I replaced the battery and whilst having a couple of other bits done I asked the garage to check for any problems/drains. I was informed that everything was alright and it was just a duff battery. They did have the battery disconnect to replace the existing lose connection on the battery. However, ever since picking the car up I am greeting with ‘glow plug error’ every time I start the car. It was also very obvious that the duel climate control display is really dim compared with before. The rest of the dash is normal brightness but the climate control is hard to read in sunlight.

Is this all just a coincidence or a common bug with the ECU after having the battery disconnected? Would a reset help?

The glowplug control modules are known to fail, it is a very common fault. When they fail, they report that the glowplugs have failed, even if they haven't. Easiest way to diagnose this is to remove the glowplugs and test them with a battery. Or just replace them, as it would be worth doing if they've never been done before, especially at this time of year.

Check all the fuses etc inside the box on the positive terminal, make sure they are all properly seated and the terminal is secure. A dim climate control unit is a new one on me.
