Crazed Alfa 147 Front / rear washer jet confused

Hi there

My son's 2002 147 (only owned for 3 months so don't know it's history) is behaving strangely when using the washer stalk.

When I pull the stalk towards me, I expect that the front washers will spray and the front wipers will sweep. Instead, I get the REAR washer spraying and the front wipers sweeping!

Of course, the opposite occurs when I push the stalk forwards - I expect the rear washer and wiper to operate but instead I get the FRONT washers spraying and the rear wiper sweeping.

It would seem like a simple wiring issue but I am unsure where I should start looking.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Haven't checked, but it may have one pump that spins one way for the front and the other way for the rear.
So it will do that if the wiring is crossed over too.

Either way, the pump is the place to start looking.

yep, on the 147 one polarity on the pump is front washer, reverse polarity is rear washer. So it sounds as if, as suggested, the wires to the pump (mounted on the outside at the bottom of the screen washer tank) are reversed....
The pump is inserted with a kind of rubber cork btw, and can simply be pulled out of the bottom of the tank
