Sportswagon 1.8 2001 rear brake caliper
I'm trying to fit an offside rear caliper from a breakers yard. The caliper is in good condition, but I noticed it came with a hydraulic hose that looks somewhat longer than the one currently on the car. The depth of thread on the caliper/hose union is identical on both hoses. Well I can install the caliper but tightening the union is impossible without the hose twisting. I'm about 1 turn short maximum of a tight seal, and if I try to make the extra turn the hose immediately starts twisting. I can only think the existing hose is too short, but as I say the thread lengths are the same, so I'm at a loss except to pack out the space with a healthy washer which may or may not be a good idea. Any suggestions please? Replacing the existing hose won't be easy as the upper union is corroded and its just going to shear off.
