Hi all, newbie here, been lurking for months and picked up loads of useful info from the experts so thanks!
Had my 03' 147 2.0TS for about 7 months now and all has been fine until now ....
Started losing coolant a month back, was topping up to start then followed with temp gauge reaching max temp and MCSF light. Coolant system was pressure tested cold and no loss, belt was done 30k ago but noticed no mention of water pump being replaced.
- Replaced water pump, timing belts - old pump bearings were gone and evidence of water leak around area so had hoped this would fix. Also replaced coolant temp sender.
- MCSF diagnosed as misfire cylinder 4 so removed/cleaned plug and hoped may have been due to water/oil in plug well.
- No evidence of h/gasket leak that I can tell - and it never 'over' heated.
Had some mayo in oil cap after sitting around for a few weeks doing short trips but cleaned and seems to have dispersed.
Since new water pump/belts has been running ok but coolant loss is still noticable (especially long journeys at decent speed) and MCSF has returned. Noticed a slight hissing sound around header tank when hot so thinking could be seal in header cap? bit optimistic!?
Re-cleaning plugs and inspecting coils this weekend. Will buy a multimeter to resistance test if no visible damage.
Im not a mechanic (but learning quickly since owning an Alfa
) Any other suggestions re. coolant loss or things to check while I have the hood off this weekend?
