Alfa 147 Q2

147 Q2 gearchange

Glad to say I'm now the proud owner of a Q2. Got a few niggles to sort though. I'm finding the gearchange tricky because the gear lever does'nt centre. It does'nt seem overly stiff, just does'nt centre. Having read a few guides on here do they apply to all 147 models about the linkage under the battery tray? I can't find any photo links and get a bit lost in the writeups (I'm pretty handy with the spanners but always wary of tugging away at gear linkages incase internal parts drop off!). What about at the actual lever assembly inside the car, anything there?
Any advice, links, photos would be great.

It will most likely be the linkage arms on top of the box. Take it off and strip it. Clean and refit.

As above - battery & tray out, remove the 13mm bolt through the selector, prise out the old plastic top hat bushes, clean inside the ally housing that the bolt goes through with sandpaper til its got no corrosion at all in there (blowing it out with an airline helps or vacuum it), then push in the new top hat bushes, bolt back on & linkage back on. Its not that hard when you're looking at it. If you're not sure of the bolt, get someone to wiggle the gearstick side to side while you're watching the top of the gearbox, the balljoint that the linkage cable pulls on is attached by the 13mm bolt that gets stiff inside the ally casting that houses it.

New top hat bushes:

(you can save the old ones, but its easy to wreck them getting them out so handy to have replacements as they're cheap enough)

Ok thanks, sure it will become clear when I see it.
It appears fine when cold then after everything is up to temp it starts to bind.

Thanks for your help.
