Help Time for bed, says Zeberdee?

Hi all
Just got a new problem with my 2.4JTD. I have driven over a few deep pot-holes recently around Leeds...just in case this has any bearing on what I'm about to say BUT
yesterday I started to get a Boiing noise (I know this dates me but - like when Zeberdee said it was time for bed on The Magic Roundabout) from what seems like the front drivers side suspension - a bit like when you twang a ruler when going into dips in the road? So, I had my car straight round to my local independent (who is usually very good) who drove it, heard the noise, said it sounded like a spring had gone, put it up on the ramp but could then find nothing wrong with the springs or shocks. He asked me to drive it today to see if it persisted (it has) and then take it back Monday am for a real close scrutiny of the front suspension. Any ideas anyone? Could it be something other then the suspension?

Definitely sounds like a spring has gone...odd the garage didn't spot it when they inspected it though...
